Can you make money with affliate marketing? The short answer is yes, affiliate programs can earn a extra money and even a full-time income from home. The long answer is a little more complicated. Like any home income venture, success comes not so much from what you choose to do to make money, but whether or not you do what needs to be done correctly and consistently.
Getting Started Doing Affiliate Marketing is very simple as you do not have to own a website or blog to start. You need to sign up with an affiliate program such as commission junction, (www.cj.com) which has wide range of affiliate products, or do a Google search for “Affiliate Marketing” Do your research on what or who your target market is going to be. Do not try and promote a wide range of products that are not connected with each other.
Even if you’re selling thousands of items a month, you’re still making less than a 10% commission. Because of this, I know a ton of people who make a little bit of money off of Amazon, but few who make thousands.
Once I found my niche (WordPress speed optimization), a solid hosting company with a high commission affiliate program (SiteGround) and created tutorials around topics people in my niche would find helpful (and might want to change their host), that’s what got me to $100k.
SEO – I have a full guide on Youtube SEO. You’ll basically want to research a video keyword in YouTube’s Autocomplete dropdown, then craft your video title/description to include your keyword. Write a long description and embed it on your blog to get more views. Create a nice custom thumbnail and make your videos long and thorough, just like your blog posts should be.
Always disclose your affiliate relationship. Most visitors will probably understand that graphic ads will lead to your getting paid, but if you write a review or use an in-text link as a recommendation, you want your readers to know that may lead to compensation as well. This ensures you retain transparency and trust with your readers, but also, it’s by the FTC’s endorsement rules.
If you go to the “Audience Insights” page in the Facebook Ads Manager, you can play around with the different options to define your target audience. Hopefully you have a pretty good idea about who your target market is based on your buyer persona research, but finding the best audience for your video ads might require a few attempts. This is a prime opportunity to really confirm your optimal target audience. What target audience has the highest CTR? What target audience has the highest LTV? Use the data you get from your campaigns to evaluate both your Facebook campaigns and your larger marketing strategy.
Use quality copy to promote these products. You want to paint an effective picture that shows how your product will change the lives of your prospects. You must clearly show the features and benefits. In other words, give the prospects a reason to buy the products you are promoting rather than from somebody else.
One thing I do is have websites that are set up in lower competition niches where the items typically aren’t as expensive and where it’s easier to sell these products in larger quantities ($50 or less). Then I have other niche sites that sell more expensive products at much higher prices ($XXX – $X,XXX) that are sold less frequently. So this way I get to use the increased quantity of sales from these lower priced product websites to help me get up into higher payout brackets so instead of making 6% on that high end item I’ll get 8% instead.
I made cold calls to lists of expired clients, I went to lululemon (a clothing store) and gave free stretching workshops, I walked around the neighbourhood handing out flyers, I performed endless free sessions, I bought every manual on selling and marketing personal trainer services I could find, and I took on clients from deal of the day websites like Groupon. None of it worked!
You have a blog, website, email list or some other online presence where people listen to what you have to say. (If you want a blog or website here are my steps to get yours up and running in 15 minutes or less).
WhatsApp, the largest messaging app in the world with 1.3 billion monthly active users, introduced a business version in India early this week. “Based on research, we know that people are using WhatsApp to talk to businesses. We want to make business messaging more convenient for people and more efficient for businesses,” a WhatsApp spokesperson said in response to ET’s questions. Whatsapp Business is a separate app from Whatsapp Messenger, aimed largely at giving a direct communication platform to small businesses, many of who may be using WhatsApp already.
This answer is not about being venomous at all. But it is about letting people know – think before you take the leap. The internet has simply exploded with the false pretense of fast money, cars, vacations, debt-free living, beaches, jewelry, fine wines, villas by the beach and city condos…. I think you know better.
If you get THAT clear and believe in some product, go ahead. Your audience trusts your word. But most folks need to use or experience before they can get clear, because they have a fear: the fear of using trust. I am slowly losing that fear but still use what I promote, before I promote it. I also just sell my stuff mainly. Since I have quite a few products and eBooks and services to sell.
I must commend you for this very useful article. I have been searching for tips on affiliate marketing to find out if it is a source genuine online business, or something fraudulent. Thanks for the encouragement.
On a basic level, here’s how affiliate marketing works. Thinking of starting a site now to try this out. I have one question regarding the Amazon Affiliate program which I think seems really attractive. Not sure if anyone here can answer it, but I have not been able to find the answer googling.

Locate online communities relevant to the affiliate you are promoting. This might include forums, discussion boards, chat rooms, and blogs. Post often on the forum, and build a good reputation among the community members. Once people trust your judgment, you can start to include affiliate links in your posts. Do not simply spam the forums with product codes. You should sprinkle the affiliate links within genuinely useful content.
Those who claim that their cookie is valid for 45 days (good!), but what about the product? Either it is crap (a fact easily verified by the percentage of the income you would be getting back from the sale price), or the mere fact that 10,000+ people are promoting it. The chances of you making a sale is slim to none.
